Peranakan Museum in Georgetown Malaysia

The first floor is divided into 2 parts an internal comprising the Main Hall, Galleries 1 to 3 and the Dining Hall. This is arranged in a way to show a certain theme to show culture and live style of the Peranakans. 




In the Main Hall beautiful 'Mother-of-Pearl' furniture is on display. The arrangement is in a traditional one for a festive celebration.

The second section part is the external annex of the mansion where the kitchen is located, this is the Nyonya's domain. There is a pretty pond and a narrow secret passage to the Chung Ancestral Hall.

Upstairs are sleeping rooms of three different periods from 1900s to 1950s, showing a interesting perspective into the private live. There is a collection of glass epergne's and some pretty silver jewelry.


A collection of precious rosewood furniture is in the Ancestral Hall.


In the main family hall are some huge paintings commissioned by Kapitan Cina Chung Keng showing parents and grandparents. The left and right wings of the villa has a impressive collection of Chinese rose porcelain plus some silver and gold jewelry.


The Chung Temple.


Located in the back was built in 1899 by Kapitan China Chung Keng Kwee for ancestral worship. The Taoist temple was restored recently with the help of Chinese craftsmen. Nicely decorated with woodcarvings and embellished with gold leafs. On the walls ceramic figurines with scenes from Chinese legends can be seen it somehow looks like fairy tales visualized, read more.
